Othmar Handl and Lukas Kauer are the Forward Festival founders, which is celebrating five editions this year. Both have many years of experience in the design, communication, and creative field, so the natural step for them was to create an interdisciplinary network some years ago, a meeting point where artists, designers, creatives and communication and marketing professionals had the possibility to interact and interchange some ideas. The Forward magazine, which was launched in March 2018, offers regular insights into the world of design and weekly content in collaboration with current and past speakers of the conference, connecting all of the German-speaking creatives.
Celebrated the 13th and 14th of June in the Alte Kongresshalle, a unique location in Munich, the festival has invited some of the most interesting speakers in the creative field, including the “godfather of grunge typography” David Carson, who revolutionized the graphic scene in America with its chaotic and fanzine-alike style.
The former art director of the music project Major Lazer, Ferry Gouw, will be also giving a conference at the festival. Ferry is nowadays the in-house designer for James Blake’s label and club night 1800-Dinosaur, as well as having worked for other bands an musicians like Bryan Ferry or Sean Paul, and different fashion and consumer brands.
David Vogel, who works as a UX-designer at the renowned agency AKQA will explain how UX will change the world and how technologies like blockchain, mixed reality and AI combined with new business strategy tools will offer a new paradigm in the web design and communication world.
The 3D designer and illustrator Rizon Parein, the creator of the neon poster design for the film Drive among others designs, and also the founder of Us by Night, an international design & creativity festival, will offer a talk about illustration and graffiti.
These and other amazing artists like the photographer Roger Ballen, the creative director Max Siedentopf, the designer Gemma O’Brien or Patricia Reiners and Amelie Satzger will form part of this year’s keynotes.
Apart from the awesome speakers, the festival will have, as usual, side events that will be even more special and diverse than years before like workshops, student talks, after show parties, live performances and happenings as well as the expo area. And once again, the Forward Festival presents itself with a completely new look created by the design studio Zwupp. Two days full of creativity and good opportunities to connect. Let’s look forward! Onwards!
