Munich Cultural Guide from the 9th to the 15th of January

Christmas time is over and winter is here. It’s time for cinema, museums and plans indoor. Let’s have a look at what this second week of January has to offer:

THURSDAY 9th:

Art: Van Dyck – Afterwork: Kunst, Bier en Muziek. From 7 to 9.30 pm at Die Alte Pinakothek. 15 €. An evening around the exhibition of the Flemish artist at the Alte Pinakothek, with beer from Flanders and music from the Münchner Rundfunkorchester. A short guided tour through the most remarkable works will be available in German.

WHOLE WEEK:

Film: Aki Kaurismäki (retrospective). From the 7th of January to the 26th of February at Filmmuseum. 4 € (3 € for MFZ members). The Finnish director has made some notable and remarkable films like The Match Factory Girl, I Hired a Contract Killer or Le Havre. The Filmmuseum München will show Kaurismäki’s films in original version with German subtitles.

SATURDAY 11th:

Party: Kassettenclub #92. From 11 pm to 5 am at Milla Club. 8 €. Indie music, C86 bands, shoegaze, post-punk, cold wave, electronic music and more awaits you at this party at Milla Club. Let’s dance!

SUNDAY 12th:

Film: Jojo Rabbit. From 5.30 to 8.30 pm at Cinema Filmtheater. 11 to 13 €. The Fantasy Film Festival organizes a series called White Nights. This time is the turn of the satire Jojo Rabbit about being a kid with Hitler as an imaginary friend. Scarlett Johanson plays the role of the particular child’s mother.

Concert: Hochzeitskapellenfrühschoppen. From 11 am to 2 pm at Fraunhofer Wirtshaus. The band Hochzeitskapelle has members of The Notwist and it’s like an institution in Munich. They will present their last album If I Think Of Love, the perfect soundtrack for a relaxed breakfast or a hangover brunch.

TUESDAY 14th:

Documentary: Das Forum. From 5.30 to 8 pm at the Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film München (HFFM). Free entry previous registration. The director Marcus Vetter introduce us to the World Economic Forum with different politic perspectives, problems and solutions. The activists Greta Thunberg or Jennifer Morgan, are some of the personalities that appear in the film, among others.
