Cinema: Internationale Stummfilmtage – International Silent Films Festival

September 5 @ 7:00 pm - September 11 @ 7:00 pm

€4 – €5

The new season of the Filmmuseum in Munich starts with a festival full of silent films. Some hidden gems that you won’t watch at Netflix await you here to rediscover the magic of a cinema theater. Classics and rarities of the history of cinema in black and white from countries like Sweden, the USA, France, China, and Germany.

The films don’t have sound, but the musicians Richard Siedhoff from Weimar, Joachim Bärenz from Oberhausen, Günter A. Buchwald from Freiburg as well as Sabrina Zimmermann & Mark Pogolski and Masako Ohta from Munich will play the perfect soundtrack for each film, making every session something unique.

The film Lights of Broadway (1925) and three short films will be screening in the opening on the 5th of September. The Filmmuseum will dedicate the closing day of the festival, the 11th of September, to the figure of the first filmmaker woman, Alice Guy-Blaché. Films like The Single Standard (with Greta Garbo), or Forbidden Paradise form part of this unique programm.
