The Filmmuseum pays tribute to Enno Patalas, who was its director from 1973 to 1994, in the series “In memoriam Enno Patalas”. We can find some classics of the cinema like Metropolis by Fritz Lang or Panzerkreuer Potemkin by Sergej Eisenstein among other gems.
If you want to know more about German cinema and you speak German, you can’t miss the opportunity to attend a special event taking place on the 28th of July. In addition to a superb program, on the 28th of July, the Filmmuseum will welcome Edgar Reitz, the director of the Die Nacht der Regisseure (The night of the directors), a surrealistic film that uses digital technology to create a “Deutsche Kinemathek” on the Munich’s St. Jakobs Platz where more than thirty German filmmakers of all times speak about what it means German cinema for them
Before this film, we will have the opportunity of watch Neue Räume für das Filmmuseum (New rooms for the Film Museum), a TV report directed by Helga Hayne in 1977 about the Film Museum that was shoot before the official opening of 17. Internationale Kongress des Jungen Films (C.I.C.I.). In this report, Enno Patalas explains his concept of German film history reconstruction.
