In the contemporary theater scene, you can still be surprised by shocking and striking pieces like Dionysos Stadt. Forget about going out on a Friday night and get wasted until dawn, we have better plans for you.
Dionysos Stadt is a play that lasts 10 hours, beginning at 8 pm, when the Greek Gods Prometheus, Troy, and Orestes began to discuss political circumstances that happen 2500 years ago but can be valid nowadays.
The democracy was founded in 5 BC in Athens where the political issues were discussed in the arena of theatre, a place of entertainment and also a meeting point. Today democracy has another meaning, and mainly capitalism and not the people decide what’s going to happen in every country.
Greece was also the home for mythology, heroes and gods, like the previously mentioned ones and also Achilles, Cassandra, Elektra, Ulysses, and more. Each one with his own story of conflict, war, and fate.
The name of the performance is taken of the god Dionysos, who was the father of comedy and tragedy. That way, the play is structured in different tragedies like the Troy War and a satire about the God who gives the name of the piece. The approach of the director Christopher Rüping and the performers of the Münchner Kammerspiele gives us a contemporary perspective of the ancient world until the morning light comes.
During the intervals, attendants will taste some finger food (served by the chef Serkan Tunca and included in the admission price) and other refreshments available at the bar and reservations at Kulisse or Conviva are available during the long interval. When the sun rises, they will offer breakfast for everyone. Like a Greek fest, with their pleasures, tragedies, and comedies. Like life itself.
*There are more dates for Dionysos Stadt that don’t take place at night: On the 10th of February from 12 pm to 9.30 pm, on the 2nd of March from 1.30 pm to 10.30 pm, and the 12 pm to 9.3 pm.
