El Anatsui and other exhibitions for free at Haus der Kunst
July 4 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pmFree
As usual, the first Thursday of the month is a synonym of art. The Haus der Kunst offers its exhibitions for free, making art approachable for everybody.
One of the current exhibitions you can visit is the capsule Popil, showing the works of the Cambodian artist Khvay Samnang, who explores the humanitarian and ecological impacts of globalization and the character of rituals and politics in Southeast Asia. After years of research and investigation, his film works and installations examine the symbolism of the dragon, a cultural icon in Asia, but also a part of the pop culture in Europa with choreographies that tell the love story between two dragons (one representing Cambodia and the other one China).
The other interesting exhibition is El Anatsui: Triumphant Scale, that comprises works from five decades of the artist’s career. The exhibition focuses on the monumental scale of El Anatsui’s oeuvre, also presenting wood and ceramic sculptures, drawings, prints, and sketchbooks that date from the 70s to the 90s. Apart from the retrospective of his work, there are also three works created especially for this exhibition, among them the installation Second Wave on the building’s façade. Another characteristic of this exhibition and the work of El Anatsui is his meaningful use of plastic innovations combined with classical and traditional art. This Thursday, you can also book a guided tour at 8 pm in English for just 3 €. See you at the museum!
