Kalas Liebfried: Corps-à-Corps feat. MC Nancy
November 9 @ 7:00 pm - 11:30 pm
‘Corps-à-Corps’ is the French term for melee combat. Literally translated, it means’ body-to-body ‘, which refers to the close relationship between individual bodies as well as their physical and mental condition. Kunstverein München presents Corps-à-Corps feat. MC Nancy, a new work by Kalas Liebfried. The project examines the affective relationships between electronic music and the (inter-) subjective body. Designed as a Listening Session, the work is shown in a dark cinema full of visual stimulus.
Kalas Liebfried’s works, including video, sound, performance, and sculpture, arise from the appropriation, decoding, and montage of found footage to create a new complex narrative. In his practice, explores and visualizes traces of the unconscious in intermedial spaces. Liebfried’s electronic music piece and essayistic album Corps-à-Corps feat. MC Nancy is based on the album Aphorismen-Sammlung 58 indices sur le corps (2004) (in English 58 clues about the body). by the French philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy. In it, Nancy explores how to perceive pieces, surfaces, and fragments of what we call a ‘body’. Liebfried uses samplers of that record, combined with some MC recitations, synthesizers, saxophone, and percussions to create a dynamic narrative composition similar to a symphonic movie soundtrack.
The evening begins with a reading of Tanzen, Tanzen, Tanzen (dancing, dancing, dancing), a new text by dance and theater scholar Gerko Egert, who discusses the structures and themes of Corps-à-Corps feat. MC Nancy interpreting and expanding them, creating a hybrid of philosophical lecture, experimental film, and underground club. Afterward, drinks will be served, and music will be shared. The evening will also mark the release of the project in the form of a double LP of custom-cut Dubplates sponsored by Duophonic GmbH (Augsburg).
