Is undeniable that Bauhaus marked a new era in industrial design that still remains so relevant. Its heritage can be seen nowadays in multiple objects that have become ageless.
Die Neue Sammlung was one of the first museums to acquire contemporary Bauhaus works, including textiles by Anni Albers and Gunta Stölzl, toys by Alma Buscher and Ludwig Hirschfeld-Mack, and works in metal by Otto Rittweger and Wilhelm Wagenfeld. Until date, they have been acquiring more design icons created by Theodor Bogler, Marcel Breuer, Josef Hartwig, Naum Slutzky, and Wilhelm Wagenfeld that will be shown in the exhibition Reflex Bauhaus. 40 Objects – 5 Conversations.
Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus reform school, the artist Tilo Schulz has designed a room installation at Die Neue Sammlung where these pieces establish a conversation with five international artists of different disciplines like fashion, architecture or music. The designs of this reform school converge with the arts of today, offering a contemporary reflection of its history, but also looking forward to the future.
