Queer and Now: from Stonewall to Queertopia
July 11 @ 12:00 am - July 14 @ 12:00 am€5 – €6
In the early morning of June 28, 1969, something changed in the curse of the history. A police raid at the Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village neighbourhood of Manhattan in New York unleash a series of demonstrations against it by members of the LGBT community. These riots were one of the most significant events leading the queer liberation in the USA. Sometimes a revolution is needed to have a new beginning full of possibilities and opportunities. And so it was.
Today, the world has evolved to the point that being queer is not a tabu for so many people that don’t need to hide anymore. However, seems to be an issue for some people and in some countries, so we still need to fight to normalize something that is normal, because diversity is what make us humans.
The Münchner Kammerspiele offers during four days the festival Queer and Now: from Stonewall to Queertopia, where new narratives and fictions are created, where subversive stories are told and where queer artists are invited to question the past and the future of the queer community, that is more than just sexuality of gender, is a way of life, a rebellion against the establishment.
The collaboration between the Kammerqueers and Beyond Color, a Munich based queer, Trans* Black and POC collective, set the bases for a queer future full of possibilities where the revolution will set everybody free.
