The Story of The Cramps
February 4 @ 10:15 pm - February 5 @ 12:03 amFree
The story of The Cramps is a story of love and rock’n’roll. Poison Ivy and Lux Interior were probably one of the coolest couples on the punk scene ever. Call it destiny or pure coincidence, but once they met in 1972, their lives were meant to be dedicated to making music together.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the death of Lux Interior (04.02.2009), the Werkstattkino screen the documentary The Story of The Cramps, a mix of videos, live recordings, reports, clips, and interviews that allows us know a little bit more of one of the most influential bands in the punk scene of all times. Iggy Pop, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Jack White or The Raveonettes are just some of the admirers of the band.
Their unique combination of rockabilly, rhythm and blues, 60s garage, punk and exotica and their transgression on the stage made them something unique. In the film, we can watch the legendary live performance at the Napa State Hospital, the concert they played at a mental hospital. As Lux Interior said: “If it is acceptable, if it is art, it can not be rock’n’roll”.
